What your go-to drink says about you

An ice-cold beer, or a fun and fruity cocktail? A glass of red, or a bottle of white? Turns out, the go-to drink you order at the bar might reveal more about your personality than you realise. We’ve put together a guide to the personalities behind each drink, and what your usual says about you.

Fruit cider

If your go-to drink is a fruit cider, you’re likely fun, easy going, and always game for a laugh. Some might look down their nose at a fruity cider, or deem it barely above the iconic teenage drinks of Hooch or blue WKD, but frankly, you’re not really bothered. You’re not a big drinker, you just want a drink that tastes nice and doesn’t cost £9 a glass.

Red wine

If your go-to drink at the bar is a red wine, it could mean one of two things: either you’re sophisticated and a teensy bit of a snob and you’re about to ask to see the wine list, or you’re a twenty-something who has read Nietzsche and pretended to understand it. You’re headstrong, and always know what you want. You may or may not own either a flannel shirt or a beret.

Martini

OK, let’s just say it like it is: you’re really classy. Possibly a lawyer, or a law student – if you’re a guy, you’re obsessive about good tailoring, and for the girls, you probably own a pair of Louboutins or Jimmy Choo heels. You like the finer things in life, and either have a crush on Daniel Craig or would like to be him.

White wine

You’re extroverted and a ton of fun to be around, but prone to emotional highs and lows. You’ve had a bad breakup that your friends still don’t mention. You’re a bit of a neat freak and a perfectionist, and you enjoy interior design and cooking new recipes you found on Pinterest. You’re the person in your friend group most likely to send this post to your mates.

Vodka lemonade

You’re always up for a good time, and while you’re not too bothered about a fancy cocktail you’d still like something nice and easy to drink. You’d consider yourself low-maintenance but stylish, and you love summertime and festival season. At the end of a big night out, you will absolutely be found in a kebab shop ordering cheesy chips for the taxi home.

G&T

You’re sophisticated and well put-together – although after a few too many G&Ts it’s a different story altogether. You like hanging out with your friends after work, love a neutral grey colour scheme for your home, and you probably either own or would like to own a labradoodle. You have considered buying a decoration with the words ‘Live, Laugh, Love’.

IPA

You are very likely to be a hipster with a full beard, and have some serious opinions about the quality of craft beers on offer at your local. Chances are good that you ride a bicycle, and enjoy the films of Quentin Tarantino.

Espresso Martini

You’re known as a bit of a liability in your friendship group. People love having you on a night out, but you aren’t invited to a lot of dinner parties (and you’re okay with that). You have a loud laugh and a great fashion sense.

Bloody Mary

You live for brunch. Who needs a late night out when a fun day-drinking session can start comfortably at 11 o’clock, with eggs Benedict and avocado toast? You’re probably the responsible one in your friend group, who makes sure people get home safely and initiates the ‘how’s everyone feeling this morning’ conversation on the group chat the day after.

Mulled Wine or Baileys

You’re the person in the group who is always cold, though you hate to accept other people’s clothes when they see that you’re cold. Generally quiet and reserved, but you shine through with rare remarks that cut through the noise and blow people’s minds.

Champagne

You like the finer things in life, but you’re one of those people who can always find a bargain. You have really nice shoes, but you didn’t pay full price for them. Your friends love coming round to your place, because you can always pull together a platter of deli meats and cheeses to nibble on while you watch a film.

Jagerbombs

You are a university student, and you’re on a quest to get drunk as quickly as humanly possible. You’ll go absolutely wild when Mr. Brightside comes on at the end of the night, and you know all of the words to Lose Yourself by Eminem. You will spend the Saturday morning after a Friday night out under a blanket on your shared sofa, untagging yourself from unflattering club photos.

Feeling thirsty? Us too. If you’re thinking any of these descriptions sound like your friends, you can find lots of funny and offensive drinks-inspired cards for their next birthday. And even if you’re feeling embarrassed about what your drink says about you every time you order it, remember – always drink responsibly, or the bartender’s only going to hate you more than they hate anyone ordering an Old Fashioned during peak drinking hours.
